The fit-out highlights unique properties of each exhibit, while arranging them to tell a coherent narrative about the Elefsinian Mysteries, initiations held every year for the cult of Demeter and Persephone based at the ancient Greek sanctuary of Eleusis.

Today's Elefsina is a city in Athens metropolitain area, a port and a major industrial centre, with the largest oil refinery in Greece.

The Mysteries are considered the most famous of the secret religious rites of ancient Greece.

Museological narrative for the museum layout is by Kalliopi Papangeli and Ioulia Skounaki. Lighting design is by Eustathios Tzouanakis. Graphic design is by Akrivi Anagnostaki.
